KYANITE  is  fairly  widespread  throughout  Southern  Africa,  but  some  of  the  most beautiful  translucent  KYANITE  crystals  are  found  in quartz  veins  in  the  Namib Desert Park.   KYANITE  is a polymorph  ( a mineral having the same chemistry as another,  but with a different crystal structure ).   KYANITE  has an unusual characteristic, as it has different levels of hardness within the same crystal! 

KYANITE  is commonly found in  various colours of blue, ("kyanos" meaninng "blue" in Greek)  it can  also be green, grey, white and black.
