Hematite

It has been documented that  HEMATITE   was mined in the Northern Cape (R.S.A.), as far  back  as  2000 BC,  and that  the  Khoisan  mined the deposit and extracted  SPECULARITE  (a micaceous habit of HEMATITE  with a brilliant glitter), before  80 AD.

HEMATITE  is a relatively common mineral worldwide and  in ancient times it  was often crushed into a powder, mixed  with a liquid and painted onto  the  body for   various important celebrations and rituals, (as was the glittering  SPECULARITE).

Healers of old, and right up to present times, still believe in using the powerful energy of HEMATITE for self-healing and psychic self-defense. Works well with problems relating to the spleen and vertebrae.

HEMATITE  is the principal ore of IRON and huge quantities are mined yearly for industrial production, and used for making steels and alloys. HEMATITE crystals can occur in thin plates, as well as bundles of small micaceous plates, in thin splinters and tabular, or rhombohedra crystals. Also found in massive and occasionally in striking mamillated or botryoidal forms. Hematite’s  beautifully shaped,  shiny metallic crystals  make  it  a  very  popular mineral among  collectors and rock hounds.

We  have may HEMATITE specimens available in sizes from "thumbnail" up.  Should you be interested in finding out more, please contact us via e-mail and we will give you more details.
