In 1947 a pocket of AJOITE crystals was found in the copper rich bearing mines of Messina (now Musina) in South Africa's northern provence of Limpopo. Unfortunately at the time they were not recognised as AJOITE crystals and it was only in the early 1960's they were correctly identified.
AJOITE was first discovered by the Papago Indians in Ajo, Arizona, and was highly valued by their spiritual leaders as "bringers of purity and peace". Still much sort after by collectors, crystal lovers and healers, this beautiful crystal is believed to carry the pure vibrations of mother Earth and helps one connect with their deepest inner truth.
An extremely rare and highly prized crystal, AJOITE's last South African recorded discovery was in 1991 in Messina Mine's Number 5 Shaft, on the 14th level, at a depth of 1,300 meters below the surface. There were only nine recorded pockets of AJOITE ever found in the Messina Mines, all of them occuring where the copper ore seam crossed over the Messina fault. The movement in the earth's crust having left cavities, which created a space for these spectacular crystals to form. AJOITE is a copper silicate mineral. It is a celecstial blue/green in colour and often forms as small tufts which are easily visable as inclusions in clear quartz crystals.
The mine was finally closed in 1992 due to extremely dangerous conditions underground. As it is highly unlikely that the mine will ever be re-opened, Musina AJOITE crystals are virtually impossible to obtain and are greatly prized by mineral collectors around the world.
We have several other stunning AJOITE crystals available in sizes from very small to one extrememly large magnificant specimen. Please contact us via our e-mail should you wish to find out more about the availablity of these amazing and unique crystals
